The art is extremely visible in Holstebro. The Mayor of the time was convinced that art should be placed where everyone could appreciate it.Therefore numerous sculptures and artworks are situated around the town centre today.

The Old Town Hall:

Holstebro’s Old Town Hall

Nørregade 25

Created in 1846 by the architect Nebelong.

 

The Woman on a cart:

Bronze sculpture made by Alberto Giacometti. Raised in 1966

and situated in front of The Old Town Hall, Nørregade 25.

 

The Holstebro Church (1907), Kirkepladsen:

Built on the site of a mediaeval town church. Contains an old Dutch altarpiece (1510), Frobenius organ with 45 stops/pipes and carillons with 49 bells.

 

The Holstebro Town Hall & Library, Kirkestræde 11:

Built in 1979-86 by the architects Hans Dall & Torben Lindhardtsen. With the combined Town Hall and Library, Holstebro has been given a building which dominates the centre of the town.

 

The Magic Rock:

Placed at "Færch-torvet", this is both a piece of artwork to view and a useful sculpture to climb and explore. Constructed in reinforced concrete over a steel framework, it was designed by The Gaia Design Company.

 

The Tobacco Worker´s Dream:

An ongoing international decoration project placed around "Den Røde Plads". The project is expected be completed in 2001. The Krukako Group is behind the project.

 

The Temple of Chaos:

The world’s first permanent laser sculpture. By the artist Frithioff Johansen and built around the transmitter at the TV Midt-Vest.

 

The Nørrelands Church (1969), Doeesvej 1:

Designed by the architect couple Inger and Johannes Exner in 1969.

The bell tower is rather distinctive and consists of 47 bells.

 

The Court House, Skivevej 2:

Built in 1991-92. Designed by architects 3 x Nielsen.

An extraordinary building of high architectural standard.

 

The Alfred Christensen Fountain, Herningvej 76:

This fountain from 1968 is called " A symphony in colours".

One of Denmark’s largest tourist attractions. Forty of the oldest buildings from villages in Denmark have been painstakingly re-built on the site. Includes a forestry museum, Iron Age houses and Stone Age settlement.

Every afternoon during school holidays the museum is vitalised by more than 100 persons, dressed in old costumes.

One of the biggest village churches in Denmark.

Roman choir and a nave with extensions in “Late Gothic Style”.

In front of the altar you will find an antemensale from the 12th Century.

The Museum for Miniature Art

The museum is located in The Old Toll House, which is the town’s oldest and also smallest house. It exhibits international miniature art. Despite a collection

of more than 2000 artworks it is estimated to be the world’s smallest art museum.
